Choosing the Right Visit Type
Kids need different kinds of care at different times. Whether it’s a well check, a sick visit, a quick follow-up, or even a telemedicine call, here’s a simple guide to the types of visits we offer and when to use them.
-
Cost: $200 plus costs of surveys and vaccines*
Billing Codes: Preventive care codes (used for insurance billing; numbers may vary by age and type of visit). What It Looks Like:
Focused on your child’s growth, development, and overall health.
Dr. Beavers will ask questions and check on physical health and development.
Parents are encouraged to bring a list of questions or concerns (on paper or your phone—just get them out of your head!).
All major caregivers should come if they’re able.
When to Use:
For routine checkups and preventive care.
To track growth, milestones, and development.
To bring up questions or concerns about your child’s health or behavior.
Additional Notes:
Sometimes, new or chronic issues (like ADHD or asthma) are identified or managed during a well visit. If so, you may be billed for both a well visit and a problem visit at the same time.
This is to save you an extra trip, but insurance still requires both visits be billed separately.
*What’s That Mean?
Costs: $200 is the base amount billed. If your child has insurance, we bill insurance directly. Without insurance, we offer a prompt-pay discount.
Surveys: Pediatricians use tools like the ASQ (Ages and Stages Questionnaire), MCHAT (Modified Autism Checklist), and PHQ-9 (Psychological Health Questionnaire).
Vaccines: Vaccines are required for Bloom Pediatrics patients. You can review our vaccine policy to see which are required and which are optional. Parents may discuss the schedule with Dr. Beavers if they wish to adjust the timing.
-
Cost: $125
Length: 15 minutes scheduled
Billing Code: 99213*What It Looks Like:
A shorter visit focused on a straightforward concern.
Typically resolved with over-the-counter treatments or a stable prescription.
Your provider may still spend some time outside the exam room (reviewing notes, labs, or medications)—this counts toward the visit length.
When to Use:
For non-complicated health issues.
For ongoing chronic conditions that are stable and don’t require changes in medication.
Examples:
Constipation, dry skin, or acne treated with over-the-counter medication.
Asthma check-in when medication remains the same.
Depression or ADHD follow-up when prescriptions do not need adjusting.
Billing Notes:
If the visit lasts longer than 20 minutes (including provider time outside the exam room), the bill will be adjusted to a Complicated Problem Visit.
Billing Code Explanation: You may see a 5-digit billing code (like 99213) on your statement. These are standard codes all medical offices use for insurance billing. You can use them to check your coverage.
-
Cost: $175
Length: 30 minutes scheduled
Billing Code: 99214*What It Looks Like:
A longer visit with more in-depth evaluation.
May involve reviewing labs or ordering imaging to reach a diagnosis.
Often includes medication adjustments or new prescriptions.
Includes both time in the exam room and provider time spent outside the room (reviewing results, coordinating care, etc.).
When to Use:
For concerns that cannot be diagnosed without additional testing (labs or imaging).
For ongoing conditions that need a change in medication or treatment plan.
For problems that do not improve with over-the-counter treatment.
Examples:
Asthma or ADHD visit where prescription medications are adjusted.
Ongoing stomach pain that needs labs to investigate the cause.
Billing Notes:
Any visit lasting longer than 20 minutes is billed as a Complicated Problem Visit, even if it starts as a simple concern.
Billing Code Explanation: Codes like 99214 are standard 5-digit codes used for insurance billing. You’ll see these on your statement, and you can use them to check your coverage.
-
Cost: $125 or $175 (depending on complexity)
Length: 15–30 minutes scheduled
Billing Codes: 99213 or 99214*What It Looks Like:
Conducted over secure video with the child present at some point in the visit.
Parents must provide consent for telemedicine care.
Multiple caregivers can join without leaving work or home.
For sensitive discussions (like behavior or development), children can step away after being seen, while parents continue the conversation with the provider.
When to Use:
For conditions that can be assessed without a physical exam in the office.
For behavior or developmental concerns where caregiver discussion is as important as seeing the child.
Examples:
ADHD or depression check-ins.
Medication management that does not require an in-person exam.
Development or behavior consultations.
Billing Notes:
The billing depends on the complexity and time:
99213 ($125): For simpler concerns that don’t require extended time or changes in treatment.
99214 ($175): For longer or more complex issues that involve changes in medications or in-depth discussion.
Billing Code Explanation: The 5-digit billing codes (99213, 99214) are standard codes used for insurance claims. You may see them on your statement, and you can use them to check your coverage.
-
Cost: $100
Length: 15 minutes scheduled
Billing Code: 99212*What It Looks Like:
A brief visit focused on checking whether a problem seen previously has resolved.
Only used when the provider has already diagnosed and treated the problem.
Shorter and more limited than a standard sick visit.
When to Use:
To confirm a past issue is healing or completely resolved.
To make sure a treatment plan is working as expected.
Examples:
Returning to check that an ear infection has cleared.
A quick re-check of a rash or skin infection after treatment.
Billing Notes:
This visit type is not common and will only be used when follow-up is needed on a problem already addressed in the office.
Billing Code Explanation: 99212 is the 5-digit code you may see on your statement. All medical offices use these codes to bill insurance, and you can use them to check your coverage.
-

Billing Notes:
The $25 fee covers the nurse’s time. Additional charges apply for procedures or vaccines given during the visit.
Billing Code Explanation: 99211 is a standard code used for insurance billing. You’ll see it on your statement, and you can use it to check your coverage.
